Career Grade Planning Officer to Planning Enforcement Officer

£22,335 - £31,092 per annum inclusive of outer fringe allowance per annum (career grade)

37 hours per week

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council are committed to becoming the best planning authority in Hertfordshire. To achieve this, we’re seeking driven and ambitious planning enforcement officers, who really want to leave their mark on the garden city. As part of this vision, we currently have an excellent opportunity for a Planning and Enforcement Officer.

In this role, you’ll enjoy the challenge of working in a small but busy team, with opportunities to work on both rural and urban projects.  You will have primary responsibility for managing your own case load of applications and enforcement investigations, which will include dealing with complaints arising under planning legislation and the Estate Management Scheme, carrying out site inspections, dealing with requests, complaints and enquires received, compile and update comprehensive enforcement records and witness statements, conduct interviews under caution and attend appeals and court as and when required.

Previous working knowledge of an investigations or enforcement environment, including knowledge of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984 would be desirable.

The Council is currently offering a hybrid working scheme where you will be working from home and in the office, however you would be required to conduct regular site visits as part of the role.

To be successful in this role, you will need excellent communication skills and be able to work in an ordered and logical way. Along with front line customer service experience, you will need excellent IT skills and be flexible to support the service. You will also need a full driving licence and access to a car.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.

Closing date for applications is 25 September 2022.

Assessment date is 4 October 2022.

Interviews will be held on 12 October 2022.
