Information Governance Officer

All organisations have demanding requirements placed upon them in relation to the management of data, and data protection requirements have significantly increased since General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into force. In addition, there is a continuing rise in the number of Freedom of Information requests received by the Council.

We are now seeking to recruit an Information Governance Officer to support the council’s Data Protection Officer and the Senior Information Governance Officer in ensuring that the council complies with all its duties under the UK GDPR, the Freedom of Information Act and related legislation.

Applicants should ideally have a good level of knowledge and understanding in all areas of Information Governance, specifically in data protection and freedom of information, and be able to apply that knowledge to support the Council in responding to the requirements of the legislation. This role will support the continuing development of good information management and data handling systems and practices across the Council, and whilst the successful candidate will be provided with additional training necessary to carry out the role, they must have at least 5 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent), to include English.

The ability to converse at ease with a wide range of audiences and to promote best practice and ensure compliance will be essential.

Swale Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employee and volunteers to share this commitment.

Swale has a flexible workplace policy and will consider applications from individuals who wish to request flexible working patterns as well as flexible home working opportunities.

Swale is a great place to work because our staff are dedicated, friendly and passionate. In return the Council has a commitment to learning and development, a career average pension scheme, employee benefits package, a generous leave entitlement as well as offering many flexible working opportunities, including flexible home working options.

Interview date: Week commencing 10 October 2022.
