Finance Business Partner – Organisational Foundations Project

Grade 11/SM1: £51,775 – £63,651

 Fixed Term

Some 170,000 people call the borough of Wokingham home. With great schools, up-to-date facilities and a beautiful semi-rural location, there’s an exceptional quality of life – and it’s about to get even better. Right now, we have major plans for the future, designed around our residents: 13,000 new homes, better infrastructure, and a commitment to creating the best possible children’s services.

Wokingham Borough Council is looking for a dynamic senior finance business partnering professional to lead the Council’s finance support to the new Organisational Foundations Project. You will be a key financial advisor to the Deputy Chief Executive, working to ensure the Council can deliver challenging budget targets in the light of high demand and demographic pressures.

As a qualified accountant with significant experience in public sector accounting, you will provide high level options appraisals; options for change; and financial delivery support. This will include timely and high-quality strategic and technical financial advice, ensuring finance oversight, the continuity of sound financial management, governance, and value for money.

Reporting to the Head of Finance Business Partnering, your role will include the provision of guidance and support to the Council’s budget managers, as well as developing strong working relationships with key stakeholders.

About you:

To be considered for the role you must be a qualified accountant (exceptionally QBE will be considered) with management and leadership experience some of which would have been gained in the local government sector. Able to demonstrate excellent stakeholder management skills, strong communication, and presentation skills you will also have an outstanding track record in delivering a customer focused service.

About us

Employed by Wokingham Borough Council, you will enjoy all the usual benefits of being a local authority employee, including generous leave entitlement, membership of the local government pension scheme, flexitime, and the opportunity for smart working.

You will be based in Wokingham town centre, a short walk from the railway station and easily accessible by car. The working pattern for most staff at WBC is a combination of flexible home working and office base work, as required.

Wokingham Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff, other workers, and volunteers to share this commitment. Wokingham is an equal opportunities employer.

To apply, please follow the link to the online application form. CVs are not accepted. If shortlisted for interview, Wokingham Borough Council operates a competency-based interview process.

Closing date:  11pm, Sunday 25th September 2022.

For an informal discussion, please contact Stu Taylor, Head of Finance Business Partnering on 07525 804 116.
