Refuse Collector

We are seeking to recruit a full time Refuse Collector for our Waste and Recycling Team. We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to assist in the delivery of waste collection within a very high-profile service.

The work can be varied and interesting and it is essential that you can appreciate the important contribution these services have in improving our local environment and the image of the area.  You must possess good communication skills, the ability to undertake a range of duties and be a quick learner undertaking tasks with a minimum of supervision.  You will be required to work both as part of a team and on your own. You will work in adverse weather conditions and you will handle waste.

Although not essential it would be an added advantage if you hold a current driving licence. Full training will be given to the successful candidate. You must be physically fit and able to undertake a range of duties and heavy manual work, including the collection of refuse and recycling. A willingness to train and use a wide variety of vehicles and equipment is essential.

This post is 37 hours per week, based at White Lund Depot, Morecambe.  Hours of work will be over 4 days, 7.00 am to 4.45 pm. You must be flexible, as early morning, evening and weekend work are required. On occasion you may be required to work from 6.00 am and may also be required to work until 6.00 pm. The successful candidate will be required to work an extra “catch-up” day to compensate for some bank holidays as directed by the Operations Manager.  Such days will normally be either the Saturday immediately before the bank holiday or the Saturday immediately after the bank holiday, although in most circumstances you will be required to work the bank holiday.

Lancaster City Council has unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

We are a Forces Friendly employer, and an Armed Forces Covenant committed organisation. We welcome applications from defence reserves and other members of our armed forces community.

Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive we are unable to update all applicants individually. If you do not receive a response from us within 2 weeks of the closing date then your application will have unfortunately been unsuccessful in progressing to interview.

Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5% contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.
