SfYP Project Officer - LGBT Voice

Are you interested in working with young people to develop services and support, provide new opportunities and encourage those who identify themselves as LGBT+ to have their voices heard?

At Hertfordshire County Council (HCC), we are passionate about ensuring the best outcomes for every member of our community. While many young people in the county are thriving, some will face different challenges and concerns. HCC Services for Young People (HCC SfYP) plays an essential role in helping these individuals develop the personal, social and emotional skills they need to succeed in life.

Through Big Lottery Funding, HCC SFYP facilitates the ‘Who not What’ strategic LGBT+ young people’s group. We are expanding this further to work with Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME) LGBT+ young people and within schools.  To support and carry forward this work we are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and organised Project Officer to make this project a success.  The post holder will provide project management support to ensure that the project achieves its aims, monitoring key performance indicators and contributing to reports / updates for stakeholders (including the funding body). With the overall goal of supporting vulnerable and at-risk LGBT+ young people in their successful transition to adulthood, you could play a vital role in this service.

You will be responsible for ensuring young people who identify themselves as LGBT+ have access to local groups within their area, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues across the county. The groups offer support for the young person and a social aspect to reduce any isolation they may be experiencing.  In this role, you will be developing opportunities for young people to explore their identity, develop strategies to deal with pressure and challenge prejudices, increase their confidence, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing and have access to sexual health advice.

You will also support young people to contribute to the countywide youth voice strategy, ensuring their voices are heard when new and existing services for young people are developed.

The post holder will keep up to date records, ensuring that quality assurance and evaluation activities are consistently applied, organising and leading meetings for colleagues involved in development and delivery.

If you have any queries regarding the role, or for an informal conversation, please contact Sarah Parkhouse on 01438 843889, sarah.parkhouse@hertfordshire.gov.uk, or SfYP@hertfordshire.gov.uk
