Peer Worker

Peabody runs many projects in Hackney supporting people with Mental Health issues. The customers we work with all have a significant and enduring mental health diagnosis. Our customers can exhibit behaviours which are challenging. This is often due to past trauma. Customers may have a forensic/ offending history. Some customers will have a dual diagnosis – enduring mental health problems alongside drug and alcohol use.

Our peers work with our customer to support customers on their individual recovery journey by supporting them to develop a sense of hope, confidence and acceptance of their recovery. Peers share their personal experiences to support customers to develop their own recovery techniques. 

We would expect peers to visit customers to support them to develop Wellness Plans and provide emotional support to individuals, showing empathy, sharing experience, and inspiring hope in line with the recovery model. 

The peer role draws on your own personal experiences of recovery to support customers who have a desire to develop their own recovery techniques. You will be supporting customers to develop a sense of hope, confidence, and acceptance, by sharing (but not imposing), their personal experiences.
