Democratic Support Officer

An exciting opportunity to gain new skills, work directly with Elected Members and to work in an area of the Council where vacancies rarely occur is currently available at Lancaster City Council.  Democratic Services are currently looking for someone to fill the role of Democratic Support Officer. The duties of this role include: arranging meetings, clerking meetings (preparing agendas and taking minutes), supporting Councillors generally and helping out with the elections team if there are electoral events.

This post is temporary to cover maternity leave.  The hours of work are 22.2 hours per week, working Tuesday to Thursday. However, this post will include some evening work and very occasional weekend work. This post is currently nominally based at Palatine Hall, Lancaster.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm. This post currently involves both working from council offices and from home, as required. Applicants must be able to attend both daytime and evening meetings at various locations.

This post is politically restricted.

To find out more about the team and what the job entails, please contact Liz Bateson or Stephen Metcalfe, Principal Democratic Support Officers on 01524 582047/01524 582073 for a confidential informal discussion.
