About Us

Central Bedfordshire is an ambitious authority, determined to be an exemplary one. Our strategic location and high quality of life mean we are one of the fastest growing areas in the country.

As a council we face the same challenges every business does - investing in the right places and delivering great results. Except for us, it’s all about our 289,000 residents. We’re totally focussed on helping to improve their lives and making Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work.

This is a great time to join us on our journey.

More about the role:

Governance Services is looking for an enthusiastic and committed person to join the team to help shape the way that governance is delivered across the whole Council. We are looking for an officer to support the organisation of committee meetings, appeals and other governance programmes that directly impact on the meetings through which residents engage with the Council.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is well organised, has exceptional administrative and communication skills and can work well under pressure to support the whole governance team in a range of activities and special projects including the following:

  • Administering committee meetings and appeals and creating and publishing agendas and appeal packs
  • Supporting elected Members and organising Member development events and briefings
  • Webcasting meetings
  • Maintaining data on performance and oversight of activities
  • Advising and guiding parents and officers on governance processes

This is an exciting time to join the team with an extensive Member Induction Programme to plan and deliver, an election taking place in 2023 and a new service plan having been developed to drive the service forward. You will play your part in supporting the team to deliver this new service plan and critically to support the delivery of effective and transparent governance that enables Members, officers and residents to engage in the decision making process.

Previous governance experience is not essential but would be beneficial. The role provides an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to progress within a governance environment. You will need to have good IT skills to support the hybrid meetings and to use and maintain databases.

The role is hybrid, which means that whilst you will be expected to attend Priory House, to support some meetings in person, you will also be able to work from home, where possible.

Be part of a team that will be helping the Council to deliver its vision of being ‘A great place to live and work’. Join us and take advantage of our rewards package, agile working and the chance to learn and progress.

What we can offer you

As well as joining a friendly, dedicated, and hardworking team you will have access to numerous benefits, including:

  • Hybrid working arrangements as appropriate. We recognise the importance of supporting our employees to balance their home and work life and to be able to work in the most efficient way. As a hybrid worker you will be able to work from home with access to any CBC location.
  • A £250 one off hybrid worker payment, helping you achieve a safe and suitable work space at home
  • Support to work from abroad for up to a month a year where appropriate
  • Generous family friendly policies and practices
  • A supportive and inclusive environment that values and celebrates differences
  • Staff network and support groups
  • Annual leave allowance 24 days + statutory holidays rising to 31 days with length of service.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). This is a valuable part of our rewards package for employees and includes Life Assurance: click here
