We are looking for someone to join our Council Tax team.
The team’s main role is collecting Council Tax which is due and helping people to pay their council tax if they are struggling.
In this role you will be dealing with council tax accounts and payments and all the associated administrative work. On a day-to-day basis you may typically: take phone calls from council tax payers on a variety of issues; calculate council tax using the council’s revenues computer system called I-World; send bills and issue reminders; collect and process payments; deal with enquiries face to face or by letter and email. You will also recover arrears of council tax. This could involve liaison with the council’s enforcement agents,employers, or the Department of Work and Pensions.
We need the successful candidate to work quickly and accurately and be able to explain the council tax liability to the customer in a confident manner as well as being able to discuss the issues of arrears and non-payment, in cases which can sometimes be very difficult.
You should be able to demonstrate:
an assertive but tactful manner with customers who may be angry or upset
the ability to understand complex rules and explain them clearly to customers
The ability to work as part of a team
Accuracy and attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
That you are comfortable using a range of computer systems
A ‘can do’ positive attitude
Previous experience of handling council tax accounts would be an advantage. However, full training will be provided for the right candidate.
