An opportunity to work in our Mobile Grounds maintenance team has arisen for a Craft Gardener to join our award winning team. You will be looking after our living library of rare plants nestled on the South Downs, working for an employer with a total of eight Green Flag awards for our Parks and Open Spaces. The successful candidate will provide skills and expertise to help maintain and deliver horticultural excellence at these sites and more.
It is essential that you hold a college diploma in horticulture or provide evidence of equivalent knowledge and hold a Full car driving licence with Category B entitlement, preferably BE entitlement.
The postholder will be required to drive a vehicle as part of a mobile work team up to 3.5t vehicle weight and you will also be required to hold a PA1/PA6 spraying certificate.
You will be skilled and experienced in the use of various powered machinery and will be expected to work outdoors throughout the year. You will have a positive approach to working, take pride in the work that we do and demonstrate high standards of behaviour and professionalism in dealing with the public.
The successful candidate will have experience of maintaining herbaceous borders, woody shrubs, climbers and trees and have attention to detail to spot and control pests and diseases.
You will need to be physically fit for this role and an interest in sustainability is also becoming increasingly important to the role as we evolve our planting schemes and general practice to be more sustainable and adapt to the changing climate. This includes creating wildflower areas, water harvesting, pest & disease control, composting and feeding.
