Cook in Charge at Linaker Primary School Kitchen in Southport

32.50 hours per week - Term time only

Introducing Ourselves

Sefton Catering Service provides high quality catering to schools throughout Sefton.

We are committed to making sure our school lunches are tasty and nutritious, as we believe that school food is closely linked to pupil behaviour and educational attainment.

Job Requirements

Linaker Primary has a busy cooking kitchen preparing hot and cold lunches for on average 250 - 270 pupils and Teachers in school. The kitchen team consists of the Cook in Charge, Cook and 5 General Assistants.

The post will be an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified person who has at least one years’ experience within the school meals service and a proven record for good food preparation and presentation. The successful applicant will also need to be well organised and have good time management and people skills.

This is a busy operation and needs good planning skills to ensure that lunchtime runs smoothly and efficiently.

The school has always taken a very keen interest in the catering operation and works closely with our kitchen staff to generate a nurturing and innovative lunchtime service. Our service is a very important aspect of the children’s’ school day and as such the CIC and kitchen team are key to building strong relations and a good reputation. The kitchen staff actively encourages the children to try and taste new things and to make healthy choices so good communication skills are essential.

We are looking to recruit a person who will be able to promote and develop the service, be creative and use initiative with food presentation, craft new ideas, maintain excellent kitchen hygiene and manage all aspects of the unit bookwork. They will also be required to work closely with the school on other activities that will further promote the whole service and increase meal numbers.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference to the children who use our service.

Due to the nature of the work, this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful candidate must be able to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure (via the Disclosure & Barring Service DBS) in order to be appointed to the post.
