Residential Waking Night Worker

The starting salary is £26,080 per annum based on a 36 hour week, BUT YOU CAN EARN UP TO £36,500 per annum based on the average shift pattern as you will receive an ADDITIONAL 50% of pay for all waking night shifts worked between the hours of 8pm - 8am, as well as any hours worked on weekends and bank holidays.

Are you ready to start an exciting and rewarding career caring for children in one of our children's homes in Redhill? Our Extended Hope Service is a specialist facility that provides short stays for children and young people in mental health or emotional crisis and we are looking for waking night staff who have the enthusiasm and creativity to enhance and improve the lived experiences of theses young people.

As a Residential Waking Night Worker you will play a key role in ensuring our children and young people receive safe and supportive care. You will support children and young people to follow their evening routines to settle and sleep well at night and will act as a positive, meaningful and reliable role model. You will build meaningful relationships with the children and young people and will use Positive Behaviour Support approaches to support all aspects of your work, including managing risk and vulnerability.

In return, Surrey County Council will help you study towards the mandatory Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare and will reward you with an additional, generous unsocial hours payment for working evenings, weekends, nights and bank holidays.

The requirements for this role, which should be clearly evidenced in your application, are:

  • GCSEs in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • A passion and commitment for working with children and young people
  • Some understanding of the issues that may affect children and young people with emotional and/or mental health issues
  • An ability to remain calm and confident in a range of situations
  • A commitment to working evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays
  • Be at least 22 years of age
  • Hold a full driving licence and be willing to transport children and young people when necessary
