Making A Difference as a Temporary Occupational Therapist – Hospital Avoidance in Reablement & Occupational Therapy
St.Helens Council recognises and values the contribution Occupational Therapists make to enabling people with disabilities to live independently in the community, and the Occupational Therapy Service plays a key role in the strategy for the integration of health and social care across the Borough.
An opportunity has arisen to work, in partnership, with a paramedic delivering a hospital avoidance service. The current footprint for service is St Helens, Widnes and North Knowsley. It is a 7-day service working 7.00am-7.00pm. The Occupational Therapists role is to complete a home risk assessment and provide necessary equipment and adaptations to ensure it is safe for the person to remain in their home rather than conveyed to an Accident and Emergency Department. As the Occupational Therapy Service sits within St Helens Contact Cares the post holder will be required to liaise with various Health and Social Care professionals and signpost to appropriate services. Support is also provided by Urgent Community Response services in the footprint area.
We are seeking a well motivated and enthusiastic HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist, with good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure, to join our team. The successful applicant will have an interest in developing their skills working with adults with disabilities who are frail and at risk of falls.
The successful applicant will have at least 2 years post qualification experience in a clinical setting, preferably with experience of working with local authorities and health. They should have a good understanding of complex physical disabilities, frailty and falls. Knowledge of up to date moving and handling techniques and good IT skills would be an advantage. The Service is committed to continuing professional development.
The post is to cover a period of maternity until September 2023.
