Are you an experienced Social Worker / Occupational Therapist?  Would you like a challenging role with the opportunity to work in an integrated team, support developments and gain management experience?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious OT/SW, to join the Carers Assessment Service, Single Point of Access team. The SPA team is the initial contact point for adults in North Somerset, in need of social care support and advice. The service is mainly telephone based and provides a timely response for a variety of needs. There is also an option of face-to-face clinic appointments at our Equipment and Demonstration Centre in WSM.

Services and support provided includes social care advice and access to care services, occupational therapy advice, assessment and equipment provision to maximise day to day independence, assessment of carers needs and provision of support and services to enable carers to continue to care.

The role available is for a registered Senior Occupational Therapist or Senior Social Worker, to manage the established carer assessment service and the lead on the further development of early intervention and preventative activities. Reporting to the SPA Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management a small staff group of qualified and non-qualified staff. You should have extensive experience working in the social care/caring/therapy assessment environment to inform your understanding of the services.

You should have knowledge of social care and issues facing informal carers and the legislation determining the Local Authority duties around care assessments and provision.  Your values should be based in maximising independence for individuals and providing effective carer support to facilitate this.  You should be clear in the application of legislation to ensure a fair provision of support and facility to enable people to access their communities and support networks.

You will have access to regular reflective supervision which empowers you to make evidence informed professional judgements drawing on the latest research, theories, legislation and policy frameworks. You will be given the freedom to practice in a truly strength-based way which recognises the importance of prevention and goes beyond traditional case management. You will maintain your professional registration with Social Work England / HCPC and be committed to promoting social justice and challenging inequality and discrimination in all forms
