Section 117 Specialist Care Manager

Welcome to West Berkshire Council Adult Social Care…

We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic individual to undertake assessments and reviews of services provided under Section 117 of the Mental Health Act. The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive work environment within a well-established team of other specialists and professionals. They will provide specialist support, advice and training to front line practitioners in Adult Social Care in relation to Section 117 issues. In addition, they will represent the Council at the fortnightly Joint Funding Panel.


What we’re looking for …

We are looking for someone who can work autonomously with a pro-active approach. You will be able to develop productive working relationships with both colleagues and external organisations to provide clear solutions for Section 177 aftercare. You will have empathy and patience, and be able to advocate on behalf of service users when necessary.


The main duties and responsibilities of the job will be…

  • To ensure the Council at its staff act lawfully within the Section 117 legislation.
  • To ensure that records relating to Section 117 cases are kept up-to-date including funding information and accurate recording.
  • To develop close working relationships with colleagues in Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and Integrated Care Board.
