Service Charge Accountant

About Us:

Be part of a collaborative team getting our accounts back on track

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and local businesses at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Ensuring high-quality housing for both homeowners and social housing residents is a priority. We generate significant income from major works and service charges on council-owned housing stock, most of which is re-invested in maintenance, improvement and regeneration.

The Role:

Following the pandemic we have a backlog of service charges and major works accounting work to complete. You’ll help to get us back up to speed by calculating and reconciling charges, and producing final accounts. Providing excellent service is important and your success will depend on working successfully with a wide range of stakeholders, including colleagues and customers. You will also help to develop systems and arrange any audits that are needed. Managing large amounts of data and ensuring attention to detail is a key challenge.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information

About You:

You’ll have strong technical management accounting experience, including the operation of highly codified systems or systems controlling large capital projects. However, this role is about more than just numbers: you’ll also have a keen understanding of the social housing sector and a strong drive for customer care.

Excellent IT skills, including the manipulation of complex spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, are important. Ideally you’ll hold a CCAB accountancy qualification (or equivalent) and will have a good knowledge of leaseholder service charges. Good communication skills will help you to make the most of this opportunity.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Application process

Please do not upload any documents, including CVs/Covering Letters or supporting statements, as these documents will not be reviewed and could result in your application not being shortlisted.

You should describe how you meet the person specification requirements for the position you are applying for in Section G of the application form.

Interview date: Week commencing 19th December 2022
