Project Manager

Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract: Fixed term, maternity cover for 9 months (or until the postholder’s return to work, if earlier)

Could you help plan and build around £300m of infrastructure in North Somerset? Are you looking to apply existing knowledge and learn new skills from an experienced team, with the opportunity to gain formal qualifications?

Our Major Infrastructure Projects Team is looking to recruit a Project Manager who will be vital to delivering multi-million-pound projects that will be used by North Somerset residents and visitors for generations.

From major transport projects like improvements along the A38 and bridge replacements and a road to bypass Banwell, to buildings, like schools, you will support the Head of Major Infrastructure Projects and Senior Project Managers to make sure these major schemes are delivered on time and within budget and meet the commitments within the North Somerset Corporate Plan.

The Coronavirus pandemic has had a profound effect on our daily lives and the economy. We don’t know how long it will take before we have a full economic recovery, and there are significant challenges ahead.  The portfolio of projects you will be working on are key to the economic recovery of North Somerset and wider west of England region – linking directly to central government sponsored schemes.

North Somerset Council declared a Climate Emergency with the aim to be carbon neutral by 2030. The Strategy is supported by wider strategic plans including the Economic Plan and the Joint Local Transport Plan. Offering significant opportunity to be involved in cross council working and to make a significant contribution to meeting carbon neutrality by 2030.

You will work collaboratively with contractors, colleagues across the organisation, and with our partners, in North Somerset and the West of England, to ensure major works are well managed and deliver the expected outcomes.

To be successful you will be a team player who will be an advocate for change and innovation, put customers first, work well with others and get things done.

You will show understanding of the need to manage tasks and workstreams effectively and efficiently and will be vital in supporting colleagues in the wider delivery of high-profile projects.

As part of this role, you will be offered the opportunity to enrol onto a Level 4 Apprenticeship scheme to gain further experience and to achieve a formal qualification which can be funded by North Somerset Council. Our apprenticeship programme offers you the opportunity to gain qualifications, hands-on experience as well as personal and professional development

As well as the chance to take key roles in the council’s most complex and high-profile schemes, the Major Infrastructure Projects Team will give you opportunities to transfer skills and knowledge learned and take on further responsibilities to progress along your chosen career pathway.

For an informal discussion, please contact Alex Fear, Head of Major Infrastructure Projects on 07881 267485.

Anticipated interview date:  Friday 16 December 2022
