Salary: £ 26,845 - 29,596 per annum pro rata
Location: Working from home and any CBC offices, including Sandy Depot. You will be expected to attend a CBC office location on a monthly basis, and as needed to carry out your role

More about the role:
Our Highways team aims to provide a high quality road network for the region. By ensuring our highways are safe for the public, we help make Central Bedfordshire a great place to work and live. You will be part of a diverse team which works to keep the highways asset safe and making improvements within your geographic area. You will be inspecting the highway for defects and raising orders for repairs whilst liaising with the public and members regarding reported problems.
Across Central Bedfordshire, thousands of residents, businesses and visitors use our roads every day. You’ll make sure they get a good experience, whether they’re walking, driving or cycling. The first step is to be responsible for what is happening on the highway network in your area. You will be out on the highway every day carrying out routine planned inspections to identify dangerous defects and raising works orders for repair. You will provide an excellent customer service experience by doing your upmost to deal with most highway issues which are directed your way or to assist in finding someone who can help. You will assist your team members in identifying forward work programme to improve the condition of the highways network. To make sure we’re working efficiently, you’ll monitor the performance of highway contract procedures and check they comply with rules.
You will have already had some highways maintenance experience. You will need a driving license and enjoy a mix of working outdoors identifying defects and then returning to the office to raise task orders for repairs whilst dealing with any customer enquiries. You can build good working relationships, drawing on strong communication skills. You also ensure Health & Safety is paramount at all times. You will be IT-literate and a natural problem solver.
