Street Cleansing is a very high-profile service and we need the best people available.
The work can be varied and interesting and it is essential you can appreciate the important
contribution these services have in improving our local environment, economic development and
the image of the area. Your role will be part of a team that maintains the cleanliness of the
district’s streets, parks and open spaces.

Based at White Lund Depot in Morecambe, the main duties of the post will be to walk with a

include emptying of litterbins within a defined area, assisting with the removal of fly tipping, snow
clearance and de-icing and maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicles.

You must possess good communication skills, be able to learn quickly and have the ability to
undertake a range of duties with minimum supervision.

A full UK 7.5 tonne C1 driving licence is essential as this role entails travelling from site to site,
transporting equipment, and removal of fly tipping and emptying of litterbins. Large distances will
need to be covered. The post holder will be required to drive the Schmidt and Johnson road
sweepers and other vehicles within the department.

The hours of work will be 37 hours per week, working 5 days out of 7 on a shift rota basis,
including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

The nature of the position means that you will be required to work in all weather conditions.
Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.

Lancaster City Council have unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work
towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected
to participate and work towards reducing carbon emissions.

We welcome applications from defence reserves and other members of our armed forces

Excellent benefits include: A Local Government Pension Scheme (the Council makes a 15.5%
contribution). Discounted gym membership and discount on days out, activities and retail.
