Principal Democratic Services Officer

West Berkshire Council has a high level of public engagement with our democratic processes and this is something we want to continue into the future.

We therefore have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our Democratic Services Team, in order to ensure that we can continue to support these essential functions of the Council.  You will champion good governance and assist public engagement by ensuring the smooth operation of the Council’s formal committee meetings, and managing activities related to the same.

You will be required to develop and maintain effective relationships, working closely with councillors, senior officers and fellow team members. You will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and have sound political awareness.

We are passionate about our people and how we deliver services to our community in West Berkshire. That’s why we encourage a culture that puts our customers at the heart of everything we do – by empowering our people to work together to find solutions, be open, honest and respectful, take responsibility and listen and learn. If you value these behaviours too, we’d love to hear from you.

West Berkshire Council offers excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, Employee Assistance Scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days per annum rising to a maximum of 33 days.
