We are dealing with an exciting range of planning challenges, balancing needs for major new development linked to the Council’s growth agenda, against the protection of the Borough’s greenspaces and other environmental assets. We have recently adopted our ambitious new Local Plan.
We are looking for a Planning Assistant (Policy) who will play a key role - working with other team members – to undertake a wide range of planning policy work. This will include undertaking research, drafting and refining policies, and monitoring their effectiveness over time, while working collaboratively with colleagues, and liaising with members of the public. A key priority in the short term will be supporting the preparation of a number of Supplementary Planning Documents and the implementation of the new Local Plan.
You must have knowledge of current planning legislation, guidance and procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to negotiate, analyse, interpret and make judgements. You will be able to work independently to tight deadlines and be an effective team player with proficient IT skills. Ideally, you will also have experience of working in a town planning team and a recognised planning or similar qualification.
In line with our new ways of working, this role is hybrid and will involve working from home with occasional working in our agile hub at Atlas House in St Helens Town Centre.
