Seasonal posts:

1st April to 30th September 2022 or 1st May to 31st October 2022 (outlined at interview)

Sefton Council have a number of Temporary Ranger posts available within Green Sefton’s Land Management Team, to assist with increased workload during the busy summer season, across three different roles.

Green Sefton provides our communities with a clean, green Borough including parks and greenspaces, nature reserves, trees, and woodlands, play and recreational facilities, municipal golf courses and our coast, beaches and countryside, which include specially protected sites and landscapes, benefitting the health and wellbeing of residents, visitors, investors, and nature.

Applicants will be expected to undertake cleansing and general maintenance duties across the Council’s Green Sefton sites and facilities. The work involves a variety of duties including working outdoors, lifting and carrying, dealing with the public, using tools and equipment and handling monies where appropriate. Applicants should ideally hold a full clean driving licence.

All post holders will be assigned to a team/depot to report to at the start/finish of each day. Duties may vary in location and in accordance with business needs, e.g. working on different sites from time to time. Return travel will be provided from the depots each day.

Subject to funding approval, further posts and other roles may be advertised.

Green Sefton welcome applications from graduates and are open to shorter contracts during the summer season as posts dictate.

Job role 1

Ranger 1 Seasonal Coast Maintenance (Job description 38) 

36 hours per week 7- day rota with split early and late shifts

1st April 2021 – 30th September 2022

Successful applicants will be required to undertake cleansing duties (including litter picking, regular emptying of litter/dog waste bins), manual sand removal duties and occasional grounds maintenance tasks. They will also be required to guide and advise the public and assist with the maintenance and presentation of sites using practical and communication skills. Various shift patterns available including early and late (8.30 – 8.30) to be outlined at interview.

7 day rolling rota with 1 weekend off in 3

Job Role 2

Ranger 1 Grounds Maintenance (Job description 38) Parks & Cemeteries 

1st April 2023 – 30th September 2023 – 7 posts

1st May 2023 – 31st October 2023 – 3 posts

36 hours per week (mainly Monday to Friday working)

Parks

Successful applicants will be required to undertake cleansing duties (including litter picking, regular emptying of litter/dog waste bins), grounds maintenance tasks, including strimming, mowing, and weeding. They will also be required to guide and advise the public and assist with the maintenance and presentation of sites using practical and communication skills. Previous experience of using a strimmer/mower would be an advantage

Cemeteries

Successful applicants will be required to undertake routine grounds maintenance tasks, including strimming, mowing, hedge trimming and weeding for the 5 Cemeteries and Crematoriums. Duties include cleansing duties litter picking and assisting the burials team with site presentation. They will also be required to demonstrate tact and sensitivity when working around the bereaved. Previous experience of using a strimmer/mower and a driving licence would be an advantage

Job role 3

Ranger 1 Seasonal Car Park Attendant (Job description 40)

36 hours per week - 7day rota - split early and late shifts

1st April 2021 – 30th September 2022

Successful applicants will be required to staff the beach car park entrances at Ainsdale and Southport. They will be required to issue tickets and collect car parking fees from visitors, provide general information to visitors, and assist with general maintenance duties. Previous experience of dealing with cash is essential. Various shift patterns available including early and late (8.30 – 8.30) to be outlined at interview

Please note the following:

Obtaining references is critical - Any offer of appointment will be subject to satisfactory references – successful applicants must ensure that references are obtained as quickly as possible.

It is important that applicants indicate which post type(s) they wish to be considered for.

Working hours vary between posts, but will include some Mon-Fri working patterns, but others that will operate over a 7-day week and will include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. A uniform will be provided, which must be worn and presentable at all times. Previous experience of working in similar roles e.g. beach maintenance, coastal, grounds maintenance or cemeteries setting is desirable. Experience of 4x4, towing trailers, use of mowers, strimmers and other powered equipment and mobile communications would also be valuable (depending on the role applying for) but not essential.

Holiday is accrued at 2.25 days per month, 13.5 days for a 26 week contract

Probation period will be monitored to review attendance, absence, and conduct
