Havering is a busy outer London Borough where officers with a reputation for quality and innovation contribute to many cross cutting Council wide agendas. One vacancy has arisen for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Public Protection team for a 1 year fixed term contract working within the Licensing Team
The Havering Public Protection Service is a combined service providing residents with Trading Standards, Licensing and Environmental Health functions. Our current opportunities are based within the trading standards and licensing section responsible for caseloads encompassing the full range of disciplines in each area.
Our licensing staff work with our regulated businesses across our lively town centres and numerous high streets, providing an efficient and professional service across the full range of licensed activities, including Licensing Act, Gambling Act, London Local Authorities Act and animal welfare licensing. We have worked hard to establish good relationships with internal stakeholders and external agencies as part of our consultation and review duties.
This post will offer a varied work environment in a supportive and friendly team, providing hands on assistance to play your part in ensuring consumers and businesses are protected and regulated across a fair trading environment
About the Job
As an officer in our licensing focused role, you will be processing licenses and undertaking enforcement actions across the full range of licensable activities. You will be undertaking enforcement and project work in new and evolving areas across a number of licensing functions such as Animal Welfare Regulations, and liaising with other stakeholders and external agencies.
You will be expected to work within the borough which will include visiting premises and carrying out inspections.
You will be willing to undertake some out of hours working on a pre-arranged basis.
A driving license is essential for this post.
You are able to evidence essential skills in managing multi-disciplined caseloads and working effectively within Public Protection Service. You will have direct experience of working in an enforcement environment with key stakeholders including members, residents, external agencies, business partners and the private sector.
You are self-motivated and can demonstrate a high level of achievement in meeting statutory duties, attaining legal compliance and enforcement work through to successful prosecution.
We are developing our teams to work in new and more innovative ways, and your positive approach to change and transformation will be vital in taking part in this process.
In addition to your excellent core skills, previous experience of working within a Licensing team would be desirable as would relevant qualifications such as a licensing practitioner’s qualification and animal welfare qualification.
