Sefton Council have a number of Temporary Ranger posts available within Green Sefton’s Land Management Team, to assist with increased workload during the busy summer season, across three different roles.
Green Sefton provides our communities with a clean, green Borough including parks and greenspaces, nature reserves, trees and woodlands, play and recreational facilities, municipal golf courses and our coast, beaches and countryside, which include specially protected sites and landscapes, benefitting the health and wellbeing of residents, visitors, investors, and nature.
Applicants will be expected to undertake cleansing and general maintenance duties across the Council’s Green Sefton sites and facilities. The work involves a variety of duties including working outdoors, lifting and carrying, dealing with the public, using tools and equipment and handling monies where appropriate. Applicants should ideally hold a full clean driving licence.
All post holders will be assigned to a team/depot to report to at the start/finish of each day. Duties may vary in location and in accordance with business needs, e.g. working on different sites from time to time. Return travel will be provided from the depots each day.
Subject to funding approval, further posts and other roles may be advertised.
Seasonal Coast Patrol Ranger
(working late shifts)
1st April 2021 – 30th September 2022
Successful applicants will be required to Undertake general duties at Ainsdale & Southport beach Car parks, or the Crosby Coastal park as per the agreed rota. Monitoring visitor behaviour, providing and ambassadorial role, from general visitor information, advice and guidance on the range of permitted activities through to undertaking enforcement action. Work will include support for the other Beach Car Park and maintenance roles, issuing tickets and collect car parking fees from visitors and assist with general maintenance duties (Number and location to be allocated as per the needs of the service, e.g. either Ainsdale DC or Cambridge road)
Shift patterns will be for late shift (1.00 – 8.30) to be outlined at interview.

Obtaining references is critical - Any offer of appointment will be subject to satisfactory references – successful applicants must ensure that references are obtained as quickly as possible.
Working hours vary between posts, but will include some Mon-Fri working patterns, but others that will operate over a 7-day week and will include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. A uniform will be provided, which must be worn and presentable at all times. Previous experience of working in similar roles e.g. beach maintenance, coastal, grounds maintenance or cemeteries setting is desirable. Experience of 4x4, towing trailers, use of mowers, strimmers and other powered equipment and mobile communications would also be valuable but not essential.
Holiday is accrued at 2.25 days per complete month.
