Computer Science and IT department
We share a small and friendly office together.
In Computer Science, 20% of the course is a substantial programming project started in the first year of the two year course. We teach programming fundamentals with Java and students also learn JavaScript and HTML (HTML, CSS and JavaScript are used to create the GUI for projects). You do not need to already have these skills but you must have an enthusiasm, capacity and willingness to learn them.
In BTEC IT, students study the Extended Certificate over two years. There is a balance of exams and assignments across the four units. With unit topics covering Information Technology Systems, Creating Systems to Manage Information, Using Social Media in Business and Website Development. Prior experience of teaching these units is not essential but knowledge and enthusiasm to support learning on this subject is a must.
This role allows you to focus on teaching the subject you are enthusiastic about, to fantastic young people who have chosen the subject and are motivated to learn. You will be part of a team which strives for continual improvement in teaching and learning, student experience and student attainment. Candidates will be part of a team where resources and ideas are freely shared for the greater good of the department. The successful applicant is expected to be flexible, not afraid to meet challenges, and innovative in their approach to curriculum delivery.

We have 8 fully equipped Computer Science labs each with 20+ Computers which have a range of software installed. We are a Google based college. Day to Day Expectations of a Teacher
A full time teacher will have 22.5 hours per week contact with students, split over 5 Teaching groups (15 periods ) with 5 additional periods for preparation & marking.
On a Tuesday all staff are expected to attend a briefing at 8.40am and departmental meetings / all staff staff CPD after college, finishing at 5.20pm.
Throughout the year there are a number of whole college events, (open evenings, parent evenings, Interview day, enrollment) at which attendance is required.
Common resources are shared within departments and there are regular opportunities for professional development, delivering extracurricular student clubs and wellbeing / social activities.
