We are a small Local Authority with a mixture of urban and rural communities set in the wonderful town of Newbury and Thatcham and the beautiful surrounding countryside. West Berkshire Council embraces inclusivity, a strong focus on localities and a strengths based approach to the people that we work with. The role offers great variety, consistent pace and positive challenges with lots of opportunity for growth and development and a strong support network.

Joint Care Provider Services provides an integrated health and social care pathway for people requiring a care package to facilitate their discharge from hospital. The Occupational Therapists will work closely with individuals once they return home to focus on goal setting and assisting people to return to their previous level of independence.

The Occupational Therapists work closely with the West Berks in-house Reablement carers, as well as external care providers, to ensure that people are supported to reclaim their independence in a person-centered way using both remedial and compensatory methods.

Occupational therapists will work alongside Social Workers and Social Care Practitioners where long term care needs are identified and safeguarding or mental capacity issues have been highlighted and complete the Safeguarding concerns/enquiries and longer term care plans alongside you.

The role will require you to have knowledge of reablement strategies, equipment provision, moving and positioning, single handed care, postural needs and minor adaptations.

We will ensure that we support you to develop by applying the RCOT development framework with an experienced OT team leader via monthly supervision to ensure that you work towards your professional goals.  We are open to considering newly Qualified Occupational therapists and commit to support you through your first year/s of practice using a newly developed pathway.
