Environmental Cleansing Operative

Horsham District Council are looking for an Environmental Cleansing Operative to join our Street Scene team.

As a Cleansing Operative you will be required to carry out your allocated daily cleansing and collection duties within prescribed timescales to keep the district to the high standards of cleanliness that the Statutory Code of Practice requires.

Duties include litter picking the highways, emptying litter/dog bins and removal of fly tipping.

To succeed as Cleansing Operative, you will be expected to work in line with HDC safe working methods and comply with health and safety policy and guidelines.

You will hold a full valid driving licence as you will need to drive a HDC non-LGV vehicle and you will be able to walk long distances. You will be punctual, work well in a team, have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the public, follow instructions and use your initiative.

A knowledge of the town centre would be desirable.

For an informal discussion about this role please call Mark Greenslade, Environmental Services Manager on 07717807777.

Horsham District Council encourages and supports their employees to have a healthy work life balance by supporting their professional development as well as offering 27 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata), a generous benefits package and an online platform offering discounts from online retailers. Staff are eligible to join a contributory pension scheme where the Council contributes 20% of pensionable salary. The Council also provides reimbursement for professional subscriptions and access to a car lease scheme. Most of our office-based roles have the potential for hybrid working, we are currently trialling a 50/50 home/office working model, subject to review.

If you would like to apply for the role, we highly recommend you show clearly within the ‘Experience Section’ of the application form how you meet the essential criteria detailed within the Role Profile when applying. If you do not make this clear, it is unlikely you will be shortlisted for interview.
